Description

Located on the beautiful mountain range hinges of Garhwal Himalayas, Har ki dun is one of the most beautiful and popular treks for all nature lovers and trekkers. The trek is quite popular for its other name i.e. hanging valley because the mountains of this valley are cradle shaped.

Har ki dun is a winter trek and you can see snow White Mountain trails in the winter season. The fascinating beauty of this trek is all within the soothing sights and pleasant view of mountains and deodar trees. A soul enchanting view will be blessing your soul in this trek. The entire region is surrounded by green bugyals and you can see alpine vegetation all along the trek. It is connected to baspa valley by borasu pass.

The valley is about 3566 metres (11700 ft.) Above sea level and is densely covered with snow from October to March. Located in the heart of Govind ballabh pant national park, Har ki dun is one of the most beautiful trekking destinations that will make you see the unprecedented natural beauty. Har ki dun trek is completed through two routes that is through ruinsara Tal and without ruinsara Tal.

In September the valley is turned to lush green due to the heavy monsoon. You will get a clearer view of all surrounding landscapes and mountains as the air will be clear is this season. The temperature starts to drop down with the beginning of autumn and it really gets chilly out there. You’ll be fortunate enough to witness the snowfall in these mountains during this season.

By the month of October and November, the lushy green valley’s starts to turn brown until the leaves go golden in colour.

The first snowfall is witnessed in the valley by mid-December. You will be mesmerized to witness the first snowfall of the season. With all that snow around trekkers enjoy playing with the snow, making a snowman and what not. The valley brings the child within you back to life with its tremendous beauty.

You will also be able to visit the temple at Osla built by the natives of saur dedicated to Duryodhana. Its located 13 km from Sankri deep into the mountain trails of Har ki dun. It was made 5000 years ago and has beautifully carved chambers that take us back to the time.

Besides the 6-hour long trekking journey, the Har ki dun trek has an unpredictable challenge that is the rain. The peak time of the year for this trek is winters where you can witness the magnificent white snow. Trekking in the rainy season can be challenging but that is what makes a trek more worthy. Essentials like a waterproof cover, anti-diarrhoea medicines, fever medicines and water-resistant trekking boots is a must before starting this trek. Whatever may be the whether the trek will give you an everlasting beautiful memory of this wonderland.

It starts from Sankri, a little Paradise and Taluka, where the road route comes to an end. Har ki Dun trek covers 4 Himalayan villages, Dhatmir, Gangad, Panwani, and Osla village and these are the last villages of this area also known as Marginal villages. Har ki dun trek is a very popular trek not only in India but also in the world.

Har ki dun valley has lasted for more than 500 decades, also known as “Valley of the Gods”. Har Ki Dun has the will make you travel to the history and mythology of the valley along with the natural enchanting meadows and hills. There are many passes in this region with some of them crossing. There are many passes in this region with some of them crossing over into Kinnaur, Himachal, such as Rupin Pass, Borasu Pass, other than these passes. There are a few leading towards Yamunotri, Gangotri, such as Bali Pass, Fachu Kandi, and Dhumdhar Kandi, which reaches till the Gangotri valley.

Highlights of the trek

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Dehradun to Sankri

    • Our very first day will begin through a 10-hour drive towards Sankri from Dehradun. All the trekkers may reach about 6:30 am approximate to Dehradun railway station. Another way to get to Dehradun is you can book a bus overnight towards Dehradun to reach on time.
    • Moving towards Uttarkashi district by passing through Mussoorie also known as the queen of hills, our trek will cross Naugaon, Purola, Mori, and a few other small beautiful villages before reaching our first stop Sankri.
    • The road is parallelly surrounded by mesmerizing pine trees on both sides and rivers by the sides. We will be having our lunch at some favourable hours on some small roadside inn, which increases the beauty of this trek.
    • You will lose your internet connection in between the way to Sankri as these bounty mountains still have network problems.
    • The trek will cross Govind National Park checkpoint, a short way before reaching Sankri and by the late evening, the drive will end by reaching Sankri.
    • After reaching there, you will have enough time to experience the local markets and culture of the area. You can find Trekking essentials, garments, and other important essentials in the Sankri market.

Day 2 - Sankri to Pauni Garaat via Taluka

    • The day two will be started by our drive from Sankri to taluka at 7 in the morning. You will be able to get some idea of the terrain of this trek from this short drive through dense forests and streams crossing our paths.
    • After reaching Taluka, you will be able to visit another village of the same lineage on this trek. Refreshments will be provided to all the trekkers here.
    • We will be crossing many streams; our trail will make us reach to a wooden bridge that will slope down to the river. Here trekkers will get a chance to drink the natural river water and fill their water bottles.
    • The view alongside the river will provide a perfect scenic view for clicking pictures. Trekkers will be having lunch by supin tributary and rest there as well for a while by 1 in the noon.
    • From the banks of the river above at rocky heights you will find a good shatter. You will also find packaged food throughout the way.
    • As we move ahead trekkers will be able to witness potato and maize fields in Pauni Garaat, here we will be having our first camping with the sun dipping into the mountains making the day memorable.

Day 3 - Pauni Garaat to Kalkattiyadhar

    • We will be progressing from Pauni Garaat to Kalkattiyadhar on our day 3 of the trek. It covers a distance of 7 km by 6 hours and this journey will start at 6 in the morning.
    • The trail progresses through 3 “Garaat” meaning hydroelectricity run chaffing units which are used by the village people for grinding flour and for separating husks from millets and maize.
    • Going through the forests of cashew nuts and walnuts lies the village Oslo. This village is said to be blissful having a few houses and temples that are said to be about 2000 years old. 
    • We will be moving towards the inclining trek where you could take a sneak of the mighty Dhauladhar range.
    • Trails to Borasu Pass and Baspa Valley that appear snaky can also be witnessed from here.
    • After trekking for some time, we will be able to reach the green patch of land i.e. Kalkattiyadhar.

Day 4 - Kalkattiyadhar to Har Ki Doon and back to Kalkattiyadhar

    • Today we will be starting our day a little early than other days. Today you will encounter the most mesmerizing views you have ever seen.
    • You will be able to see alpine meadows and Tall pine trees as our trail will be move towards the glacier basin.
    • As we move towards Har ki dun valley we will be witnessing the snowy mountains and the trees covered in beautiful white snow. In winters this area is covered with dense snow.
    • This valley brings heaven to every trekker by displaying its immense beauty in one sight. The mesmerizing glimpses of huge peaks of Swargarohini, Hata Peak, and Black Peak etc. are a treat to the eyes.
    • The valley is an amazing and heart capturing combination of meadows, frozen streams, dense forests, glaciers and dazzling mountains.
    • Every trekker will bed flabbergasted by the beauty of this trek and will try to engulf every scenery in the memories. After exploring the valley, we will be returning to Kalkattiyadhar.

Day 5 - Kalkattiyadhar to Pauni Garaat

    • Day 5 of the trek marks the starting of our return journey. Today we will be retracing our steps from Oslo village to Pauni Garaat.
    • Our trail although will be returning but the trekkers will get another chance to relive the moments in the Oslo village. It will be the time to say goodbye to the Bounty Mountains and take back all the memories with you.
    • We will be following the same trail as earlier and will be reaching the campsite of Pauni Garaat today.

Day 6 - Pauni Garaat to Sankri

    • Day 6 will begin through a 5-hour trek to Taluka in the morning, we will be moving down the similar, taking breaks at familiar rest points.
    • We will be arriving Sankri by the tea time in the evening.

Day 7 - Sankri to Dehradun

    • Day 7 marks the end journey of this trek. The journey begins with the 10-hour drive from Sankri to Dehradun.
    • We will be having breakfast and lunch on our way back. We will be reaching Dehradun railway station by 6 pm. And from here the trekkers will separate their ways with beautiful memories of the trek in their minds.
    • Thus, Har ki dun is a winter wonderland and trekkers enjoy this trek a lot, the trek towards Har ki dun will make you fall for its beauty.
    • Har Ki Dun is also known as a stairway to heaven. The thing that makes this trek so enthusiastic and beautiful is that the trekkers can visit this place in both the winter and summer seasons, making it a unique and mesmerizing trek.

How To Reach

    • By Road: As Dehradun is well connected with major cities of North India such as New Delhi, Lucknow, Haryana, etc. So you'll easily get transport for Dehradun from these cities. Also, some buses depart from ISBT Kashmiri Gate (Delhi) to Dehradun on a regular basis. The overnight journey might be good.
    • By Train: Dehradun Railway Station is well-connected with major railway stations like New Delhi Railway Station, Lucknow Junction, Kolkata Railway Station, etc. Overnight journey via train would be a great choice.
    • By Air: Jolly Grant Airport is the only Airport in Dehradun. And, it is well connected with daily flights from Delhi.

    • Cancellation by guests Cancelled before 45 days from the trek start date – 70% refund
    • Cancelled before 20 days from the trek start date – 50% refund
    • Cancelled before 10 days from the trek start date – 25% refund
    • No refund for cancellation within 10 days from the trek start date.
    • Cancellation before start date – Due to any foreseen circumstances (natural disasters, strikes, weather conditions, etc.) Seller may cancel the trip. In such cases, the mountain hoppers will refund 50% in cash and issue credit against the rest of 50% to the customer’s Eventskite Wallet which can be used in the future.
    • Cancellation/change after the trip has started – For the safety of guests or reasons mentioned above, an ongoing trip may be cancelled or the itinerary might be changed midway. In such cases, we will try our best to co-operate with you however, no refunds will be made. If the changed itinerary (agreed upon by guests) is longer than the original, extra costs (reasonable) will be borne by guests.
    • In case of cancellation, the mountain hoppers or Eventskite will not be responsible for any incidental expenses, collateral losses, or damages that guests may have incurred while booking the trip (for example Visas fees, flight expenses, etc.)
    •  The mountain hoppers or Eventskite will not be responsible for any change in itinerary because of nature-related causes and the decision of the trek leader for various aspects of the trek will be final (during the trek).
    •  If the trek route alters from the itinerary because of any damage to the route, the mountain hoppers or Eventskite will not be responsible for that.
    • We always urge guests to keep a buffer day for mountain treks for such cases.
    • If any guest has to return from mid-way during a trip/ trek because of medical/ physical or any other concerns not related to The Mountain Hopper or Eventskite, we will not bear the cost of transporting him/ her back to the nearest base camp.
    • Decision a trek leader during the trek will be considered final. 
    • Change of trek batch is dependent on the availability of seats in the batch.
    • In case of transferring a trek to a friend, he/she should satisfy all the mandatory requirements put forward by the mountain hoppers.
    • The mountain hoppers holds the right to change/cancel the policies, without prior notice.
    • Any kind of emergency evacuation charges will be paid by the customer.
    • Normally the seller expects to carry your personal luggage on your own, if you wish to offload your backpack, you can give it to Mule. Charges of offloading backpack: -
      • INR 1500/- if you make an online payment to the mountain hoppers, 10 days in advance.
      • INR 1800/- if you inform the mountain hoppers after reaching Sankri.
    • The backpack cannot weight more than 11 kg. The backpack should have a waterproof cover. Suitcases/trolleys/bags will not be allowed.
  • Any refund applicable will be processed within 14 business days.
  • Any refund claims need to be done within 15 days of the date of travel

Advisory

    • Avoid smoking and consumption of alcohol while trekking.
    • Do not disturb local people or animals during trekking.
    • Do not try to harm nature in all terms.
    • Pay attention carefully to the trek guides and instructors so that you can enjoy trekking safely.
    • Do not trek during nights, this might lead to mishappenings.
    • Do not throw plastic bags here and there and try to maintain the decorum of the Himalayas.
    • Never take any medicines without consulting the trek guides.
    • If you don't know much about the place then don't roam around without a guide because mountains are unpredictable.
    • Avoid any kind of anti-religious comments and activity to respect the local religion, local people as well as your batch mates.
    • Carry your identity proofs like Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID etc.
    • Follow the Guidelines issued by the State-Government during your whole journey.
    • Maintain social distancing in all manners.
